I am a born again believer. I am not afraid to share my faith. "But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven." Matthew 10:33
Prayer is not something to joke about. The enemy (the devil) wants you to not pray and brings a battle to you so you will not think to pray.
Ephesians 6:11 11 New Living Translation
Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. The devil has strategies to get us, so we must have strategies to stop him.
Want in on a secret, God gives us the strongest weapon available- prayer
18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, 19and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, 20for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
We need to focus on what we are fighting. The devil uses many smokescreens and honestly people to hide himself in. I have a coworker that I do not really like. We do not mesh well together. But since I started praying for her, it is getting easier to work with her. I realize that it is not her I am against but the person that is causing the atmosphere around us that makes us touchy around each other.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
I hate taking risks. I would rather keep in routine and do the same thing over and over. But Jesus wants us to explore and make disciples for him. We can be fearful and not want to do something different. Satan will use our fears against us.
2 timothy 1:7
7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
We must keep the passion of what we do. Prayer is important and it relies on us wanting to do the best we can for God. Satan will try to get our focus off God and to other things/situations.
New International Version (NIV)34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Habits/Addictions can be hard to break. I love chocolate. It does not matter what kind. I know that a little is fine but too much is bad for you. That balance can be easy to sway. Satan is like that he will use sins that you LIKE to make you feel that you can not be close to GOd. He also knows when is the best time to tempt you.
13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.
My family is very important to me. I often run big decisions by them because they will give me the good and the bad. I sometimes will focus on the good. But there were times that I did not want to be around certain members. I had to remind myself that we need to be kind to each other. Satan wants you alone and lonely.
1 peter 4:7-9
7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. 8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
We must keep who we are true. We need to know what we stand for and stay strong in our beliefs.
1 Peter 2:9
9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Have you ever gotten to a point where you think that you are doing good and then a person says yea but last year..yadda yadda yadda. What God has forgiven you for, forgive yourself. Allow Satan now power over you.
2 Corinthians 5:17
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here!
I am starting back to work next week. The pressure will be on to make sure that everything is done like it needs to be. But if I don't focus on God first then my priorities will be outta wack.
His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;
11 the Lord delights in those who fear him,
who put their hope in his unfailing love.
There will be many people that oppose us.
Exodus 1: 8-14
8 Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt. 9 “Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become far too numerous for us. 10 Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country.”
11 So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh.12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites 13 and worked them ruthlessly. 14 They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly.
Of all those that could go to the promise land, only 2 said yes.
Numbers 14: 30-31
30 Caleb told the people to be quiet and listen to Moses. Caleb said, “Let’s go now and take possession of the land. We should be more than able to conquer it.”
31 But the men who had gone with him said, “We can’t attack those people! They’re too strong for us!”
Israel needed deliverance for a cruel king but we need deliverance form the devil. Each person is given a choice on whether to go where God wants him or her to go to.
Joshua 24:15 - And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
There will be times later that we will want to go back to the slavery because of the “perks” that we can have.
Numbers 11:5 We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost--also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic.
1 Kings 2-3:15
After the death of David his son took the throne. Solomon was a very wise king. When he was asleep one night God told him that he would give Solomon what he wanted. Solomon could have had anything- money, long life etc. Instead, he wanted to know how to rule his people well. God was happy with that request and chose to give him that and money, riches and honor. Solomon was thankful to God for this and gave an offering to show his appreciation.
I wish that I would be like Solomon. I do not always make the best choices in my life. But I do know this, that Jesus is greater than all my sin. Matthew 12:42 states The Queen of the South will rise up with this generation at the judgment and will condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
John 1: 1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
God is a great God. He knew that we would need help with stuff that comes up. He has let us know that he will always be there to help us. When I feel confused or not sure what to do, prayer can make things better. We pray last when in reality we should be praying first.
“10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.”
There are so many times I get angry with a person to realize that he or she is not my real problem. There is someone that is behind them that causes my problems. Our real enemy is invisible. He causes problem in all areas of our life. God gives us many things to help us and we should not be afraid to walk with God. Satan hides his nature. He pretends to be an angel. (2 Corinthians 11:14) But, he comes to murder, lie and deceive. We need to be alert and ready. There is no time to waste. We must do our part or the devil will destroy us. He knows what our weaknesses are and what bait to use. He wants to distract us from our ministry. We must know our father and pray to assist us in spiritual battles.
The belt of truth is a must have in this world to be a doer and not a hearer only. It gives you a strong core and a foundation to build upon. We must take a strong firm stance on what we believe in. We must not back down and it will set us free. As long as we are doing what is right we have less to worry about in the long run.
The breastplate of righteousness means that you are living like you should. Your behavior should show what you believe in. You must guard your heart from sin that is addictive such as drugs or pornography but also simple things as deciding to sleep in and not read your devotional. The devil knows your weaknesses and is willing to use them to get to you.
The shoes of peace are very important to have. This gives us a firm grip in what we believe in. We need to be willing to dig in with the peace of truth. This allows us both stability of the mind and of our emotions. Be ready always and be willing to move forward in God. We need to have peace in life and on the battlefield.
The shield of Faith shows a reliance in God. Faith is what you say you believe in Action. Faith without works is dead. Faith requires risk. The devil will be throwing things at you and you must have a way to cover yourself in the battle.
The Helmet of Salvation protects your mind. In a way your mind is your identity and the helmet protects it. We must protect our mind and focus on God and his will. We can be confident in knowing and showing others what we believe.
The sword of this spirit is a very important piece of armor. We must focus on the bible and the teachings that are in there. We must know it in our heart and mind. We cannot expect to win without a way to combat the enemy. Because we are fighting in heavenly places not earthly ones.
Habakkuk 1:1-4 This prophet was just like me- Why is this happening?! So many people are killed daily that do not need to be. I turn on the TV and there is still coverage on what happened this past week. I do not understand why the men decided to disrupt the peaceful protests.
Habakkuk 1:5-11 God spoke and stated that things will get worse before they get better. I know that as we get farther away from God that he will do more to try and show us what we are doing wrong.
Habakkuk 1:12-17 Habakkuk started to wonder if he was talking to the God of Abraham. I hear this line even today.. How can a loving God do such hateful things. Well…. he does not do it but allows us to gain what we have worked for.
Habakkuk 2:1 Then he decided to stand still and wait on God. This is something that I am o=working on. I am trying to trust God and stand firm in my beliefs.
Habakkuk 2:2-5 God Answered and stated that he will take care of his own but it will be in his time and not our own. I have to remember that God’s timing is not always my own.
What are your thoughts on what is happening across this country?
.2 Samuel 11:1 – 12:14
Sometimes small sins can lead to big sins. David saw a beautiful woman and wanted her. She came to David’s house. Then she became with child. He tried to cover up the mistake by bringing her husband home but Uriah (her husband) did not go to his house. Eventually, David had Uriah killed on the battlefield. A prophet confronted David and the sin was acknowledged. David asked for forgiveness and received it. However, David’s son was killed because of the death of Uriah. Just like David we have free choice. God allows us to live like we want to but we must live with the consequences of our actions.
To follow Jesus is to be willing to lose your life like you know it. I have had people to tell me that I am stupid or weird for doing some of the things that I do.
37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me."
You will be leaving the life that you love. Jesus loves you and has different plans for your life. The cost is high, for they left both their work and their father. They did not say goodbye. They just went. I am not sure if I could do that sometimes. When I see my family around me, could I leave them and never see them again.
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save their life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it."
It is not easy to do this, but God is with you and wants you. He adopted us. We did not know that we wanted him but he wanted us. I was saved when I was 10. I believe that I was saved but it was not until I rededicated my life in college that I truly understand his calling of my life.
16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other."
But you need to be a genuine believer. You cannot play church and think that you will get into heaven. I have seen people that have been in the church finally come to Jesus later in life. They were dedicated workers in the church who just did not get it at first.
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’"
We then become one of his and need to be prepared for the life change. We are called to make disciples. We are now going to heaven but what about those that do not know? The most amazing thing that I have done is when I went to South Eastern Asia to visit friends that are missionaries there. We went into a house and asked who saves, the woman first said Mohammad. But my friend talked to her and made her realize that even Mohammad was not sure of his salvation using the Koran.
( "Or do they say, 'He has forged it'? Say: 'If I have forged it, you have no power to help me against Allah. He knows very well what you are pressing upon; He suffices as a witness between me and you; He is the All-forgiving, the All-compassionate.' Say: 'I am not an innovation among the Messengers, and I know not what shall be done with me or with you. I only follow what is revealed to me; I am only a clear warner.' S. 46:8-9 Meccan")
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
In Jesus, we work together to help complete our family. We are to work to help promote God and our Lord Jesus. After making a relashenship with the woman, my friend became close to the woman and they ate together. Eventually, after a few months the woman belived in Jesus. We must promote relationships to gain family in Jesus.
John 15:5-8 New International Version (NIV)
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
We are different than others and we should be excited about that fact. The people their knew what we believed in but some welcomed us. The enjoyed the fact that we cared enough about them to read the Koran to know what they believe. (Hint- if you consider doing this read from right to left. Earlier writings are in the back.)
1 Corinthians 2:12-14
12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.[a] 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.
We will be hated by some people for what we believe in. But we should still hold on to what we believe. There were some houses that we visited that we left after a few minutes because we could tell that their heart was hardened against us. But I am still praying for them and I hope to one day get to go back and see the friends that I have made.
18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’[a] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me
Tomorrow is July 4th! I am excited to celebrate the USA and the freedoms that we have. But eternal freedom is even more important!
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, c“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will dknow the truth, and the truth ewill set you free.” 33 They answered him, f“We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”
34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, geveryone who practices sin is a slave2 to sin. 35 hThe slave does not remain in the house forever; ithe son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yetjyou seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. 38 kI speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard lfrom your father.”
We have freedom in Jesus. Verse 32 states that if you know the truth, it will set you free. However, they did not understand what Jesus was telling them. They thought that they were not sinners. They believed that they were of God and Abraham's promise would save them. However, we are all slaves to sin. Every time we want to do something our own way we are sinning against God. But we do have that promise in verse 36-38 that the Son frees us from the slavery in sin.
2 Samuel 7
God always has a plan. He chose David to be King of Israel. David loved God and was unhappy with the idea of living in a palace and the Lord only having a tent. Nathan told David that he could do what he wanted. However, God reminded them that there was no need for an elaborate temple. God was there when they were in Egypt and wandering in the desert. He gave a covenant or promise that he and his descendants would be King. God kept his promise. Mathew 1:1 shows that he sent Jesus. Jesus is King now and forever. God always keeps his promises.
Psalms 139: 1-3
“1O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Do you recall that God made you?
I wear glasses and sometimes when I look at the mirror I see only what I lack and not what I have. I would never call myself beautiful. That is not what God intended. He created all of us with a purpose. I sometimes want to pretend that I am perfect, that I am “Cinderella”, so to speak. But that is not real, come on, I wake up my hair all a mess and I have no fairy godmother to fix all my problems. But God knows you! He knows how you act and what you have done. But he loves you any way!!! He believes that you are beautiful even when you doubt it yourself.
Psalm 45:11 English Standard Version (ESV)
11 and the king will desire your beauty.
Since he is your lord, bow to him.
God notices us, even when we think that he does not.
New International Version (NIV)47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed.
Be willing to do the things that you are afraid to do, know that God is with you.
2 Samuel 6:14 New International Version (NIV)14 Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might,
Sometimes, I am the wallflower and God wants me to be his main attraction. Do you sometimes feel that you are a wallflower?
