I hope that you had a great day with your dad yesterday. I know that I did. After church we ate out and then talked about what we have been doing lately. I know that one day I will miss that time with him. I pray for those that have lost their dad or had a father but not a dad. There is a difference. I wanted to give you a few facts about the actual day.
“On June 19, 1910, the governor of the U.S. state of Washington proclaimed the nation’s first “Father’s Day.””
After that, there was some controversy about whether to keep it or scrap the idea but due to different circumstances it stayed around. During the war it was a way to show honor to the troops. Some men did not like the idea but it seemed it was here to stay.
“In 1972, in the middle of a hard-fought presidential re-election campaign, Richard Nixon signed a proclamation making Father’s Day a federal holiday at last.”
