I hope that you are doing well with the no spending challenge. I know that I have been tempted quite a few times to get something and I have messed up 1-2 times. I got hungry one day and forgot my lunch at home. But overall it was a good week last week and I am ready to start the new week. How did you do?
Do not spend any money unless it is on bills, groceries or other necessary items. ( I am including gas since I am an itinerant teacher and have to drive daily) However, I am paying the groceries and other items with a rewards card. I am tallying up what I use and will refund it at the end of the month. This way I get rewards points. I just used the rewards points from this past year to get a few new things that I wanted. I got a piano, fitbit, grill cover and a few other items for the house. I was happy to have a little money to spend on myself. What would you spend on yourself if you had extra money?
Sales do not always save money. The only way to save money is to not spend anything at all.
I hope that it has not gotten to cold where you live. I have started winterizing my home and I have a few tips to help you! They can help save money as well.
Windows-chalk and either put plastic in the inside or get the curtains that have the plastic backing to keep the house warm
Outside air units cover to keep cold air from coming inside the house
Doors- put the foam around the door to keep cold air from coming in
Cover pipes and your hot water heater to save money and to keep pipes from bursting
I hope that this topic is not to suprising to you. I have some people in my group that seem not to know me at all. I mean really- what am I going to do with solar lights outside? If it is dark, I am not going out and my dogs will just mess them up. So what I do is I write down who gave it to me and put a sticky note on it. The next year I give it to another person in a different circle. Ex. gift from a church friend to school friend. But only if it is in good condition. WHat do you think? Should you regift if it is something you will never use?
I think I have already discussed cards but I wanted to take a moment to do so again. Credit cards are a great thing to have if they are used correctly. You must pay them off every month to get the benefits otherwise you are paying interest and there is no point in having them. What is your opinion? I use them to get cash back and it is a great thing for me.
I am done with Christmas Shopping! Yay! I will even tell you I did not buy anything online or using Black Friday Deals. I try to find things that are sold locally and not big box sell purchases. I got my last gift when I went to the Arts and Craft show. I was looking for something for my dad and found a leather maker. I saw a great wallet for a reasonable cost and got it. I was so glad to be finished. How do you prepare for the holidays?
Good Morning! I wanted to take a moment to say, gifts do not have to be expensive to show that you care for someone. I have a friend that will spend a lot of money on others. She states that it is because she cares for them. However, some of the rest of our group can not afford the same amount on a gift on her. She gets upset later. I try to tell her that it is the thought that counts. I can get a 3 dollar movie, popcorn and hot chocolate and call it a movie night gift. I know that most of my friends would be happy with it. Please take consideration this year and be happy for all the gifts that you are given.
Do not be afraid to take the first step and look at your credit report. There are many reports that you can get. I use http://www.experian.com/ I get it monthly free. Now you can spend money and get more information but you can get the main idea free. It helps me know where I stand and what I can do to help get out of debt faster. What do you use?
